Proclad Presents Technical Perspectives on MLP and CAPEX-Driven Supply Chains at International Conferences

Proclad has recently delivered technical presentations at two international industry forums, addressing the engineering and commercial considerations shaping corrosion-resistant pipeline specification and supply-chain decision-making.

At the Middle East Metallurgy Corrosion & Coatings Expo (MECOC Expo), Proclad presented on the application envelope and engineering principles of mechanically lined pipe (MLP), focusing on liner stability, qualification testing, and installation performance. The presentation reviewed compatible CRA liner materials, including nickel-based alloys, stainless steels, and super-austenitic grades, and outlined the hydroforming and hydraulic expansion processes used to achieve controlled residual contact pressure between liner and carrier pipe .

The MECOC session also highlighted recent developments in digitalisation and process control across MLP manufacturing, including real-time production reporting, crane-free material handling, and precision end preparation. Qualification testing programmes were referenced, covering full-scale fatigue testing, reel-lay and S-lay simulation, and high-temperature coating and bending validation carried out in collaboration with EPC contractors and independent test facilities .

Separately, at the Caspian International Oil & Gas Exhibition (AICC Caspian) and the CSSOPE, Proclad delivered a presentation titled Balancing Savings and Performance in CAPEX Supply Chains. The session examined current market pressures on capital expenditure and their implications for long-term operational performance, particularly in relation to material selection, procurement strategy, and lifecycle cost .

That presentation addressed supply-chain challenges including material price volatility, extended lead times, and logistics constraints, and discussed how quality-led procurement, automation, and integrated engineering services can mitigate CAPEX pressure without increasing downstream OPEX risk. Emphasis was placed on the need for closer alignment between procurement, engineering, and quality functions when evaluating lower-cost material alternatives in critical service applications .

Across both events, the presentations focused on selection methodology rather than product advocacy, with the aim of supporting more informed specification decisions at the early project stage. The sessions reflected Proclad’s broader engagement with EPCs, operators, and project teams on how corrosion-resistant solutions and supply-chain strategies perform under real project constraints.
